Yuri Lotman:

the idea that every single prop and item in cinema having a single idea to portray was very interesting as when i started to watch a few movies and really paying attention to the small prop details, i started noticing and asking myself whether a scene would be different with out the various props that were littered the room. but after further consulting my brain, i came to the conclusion that semiotics in cinema made a lot of sense as cinema is just tons of still frames flashing past our eyes. compared to the Einstein reading, this was far more understandable and i walked away from the reading with a good grasp on the content. i went back and watched swordfish, which already has various layers of semiotics and the likes, and noticed there were even more layers that i missed the first time i watched, i attributed this to me growing up a bit. lol

Einstein:

this article was pretty difficult to get through in one sitting. the idea, which seems to be valid, was confusing for me and i had wasnt able to really understand it. a montage for me is a collection of items that have a larger overall meaning and usually are, but dont have to be, related. they are usually paired with some smooth music which adds to the experience. so to claim that montages are fusions of ideas to convey overtones in the shots works for me, but i dont think the idea was very well laid out. some of his later ideas on montages are even more out of whack for me and thus, i wasnt able to finish the reading. aka sleep took a hold.
